~Mortal Instruments Fragile Eternity crossover~

Jace was on his way to see Clary when he sensed that something was wrong. To others he would have appeared to be walking casually along the street, but he was actually on edge.

He was almost to Luke’s house when he sensed somebody behind him. He turned to see a faerie. It was green with small delicate wings, which meant it was a pixie. When Jace glared at the pixie, she giggled. Jace turned to see what she was looking at. There was nothing there. Jace kept walking, but sensed the faerie still following him.

When he was at Luke’s house, he turned to see the pixie was still there. Something didn’t feel right to him, so he reached to draw his sword. As he did, he felt it snatched out of his hands.  He spun around to see a group of faeries. One of them held his sword.

How could you be so stupid? Thought angrily to himself. The faeries spread out and formed a circle around him. He heard the door of Luke’s house creak as it shut. He saw Clary walk out the front door, and then saw her expression change when she saw what was going on.

“Clary, just stay still,” Jace warned her.

“Yes, girl, stay still,” the faerie who appeared to be the leader said mockingly.

Clary yelped in surprise as vines began growing around her legs. She tried to escape, but the more she struggled, the more they grew. As Clary struggled with the vine, the faeries closed in on Jace. He knew he wouldn’t be able to handle the faeries without his sword. As he leapt at the faerie with his sword, he felt several sets of hands grab him. He struggled against him, but it was no use. When his arms were pinned behind his back and the lead faerie was sure he wasn’t going to escape, he whistled a short tune. The Faerie queen of New York appeared in Luke’s front yard and strode over to where Jace and the faeries were. Her expression was one of pure hatred.

“Ah, the infamous Jace Wayland,” she said with a scowl.

“Lightwood,” Jace said correcting her with a scowl.

“Lightwood, Wayland, it matters not to me,” the faerie queen said. “For you are mine now. And a surname matters not where you are going. Maybe this will teach you a lesson about the foolishness of mortals.” A smile finally appeared on the queen’s face, but it was a sinister smile. “Meliorn, you know what to do.”

The vine had finally grown so thick, that Clary couldn’t move. She had to watch the whole scene play out knowing that she could do nothing. If only she had a stele…

Suddenly, Jace was hit on the back of the head with the butt of his sword. He grunted, and fell to the ground. The last thing he heard before the world was swallowed in darkness was Clary screaming his name.

*            *            *

The next thing Jace remembered was seeing Clary. She was alone in her room, crying. Occasionally she would manage to say his name between sobs, but she cried nonstop.

Suddenly, Jace felt someone shaking him awake. He jumped up and settled into a defensive position with his fists held in front of him. Turned out to be a faerie who had awakened him. He had dark brown hair and several facial piercings, which was odd because faeries and iron didn’t really mix very well.

“Ok, just chill out a second. I mean you no harm,” he faerie said holding up his hands palms out. “I just want to talk.”

“Right. That’s what they all say. Just before they take you and kill you,” Jace growled.

“Look, I’m not going to hurt you,” the faerie said again in a clam voice. “I just want to know who you are.”

“Why should I tell you anything? I was sent here, so you should be telling me things.”

The faerie sighed. “OK. My name is Seth Morgan. I am a faerie, but I used to be human. So if you’re scared of the whole faerie thing, I know what it’s like to be human.”

“I’m not scared of faeries. They’re rather annoying actually. Always telling the truth from a different prospective so as not to lie to you, but still make you think something other than the truth,” Jace said as he stood up and lowered his fists. He may have looked relaxed, but he was ready to fight back if he needed to.

“You know about faeries?” Seth asked amazed.

“Of course I know about faeries,” Jace said as if it was a common thing to know about. “Only mundane don’t.  Now where am I?”

Seth still shocked answered, “You’re in faerie.”

“Faerie? No, this can’t be.” Jace turned his back on Seth. He was the least of his worries. “I cannot be in faerie!”

“Well, that’s where you are,” Seth said dryly.

“NO!” Jace screamed. He sank to his knees with his head in his hands.

Seth stood and watched him. He felt sorry for him, but there was nothing he could do for him. I wonder why he’s here.

After a few minutes, Jace’s hands fell to his sides. He stood up and turned to Seth. “I am going to get out of here. And there’s nothing you can do to stop me. I will tear this world apart if that’s what it takes, but I am going to get out of here.”

Seth didn’t doubt him for a second. “Ok, listen, I don’t know how to get out of faerie. It’s not possible unless the High Queen permits you to leave.”

Jace’s eyes were blazing with rage. “Then I am going to find this Queen and get the hell out of here.”

He started to walk off, but Seth said, “She’s not here.” And he stopped.

“What?” he said as he turned once again to face Seth.

“The Queen isn’t here. And you couldn’t get to her even if you wanted to. You would be dead before you even tried.”

“The so be it,” he said and started to walk away again.

“There is another way!” Seth shouted.

Jace turned and walked back over to Seth.  “How do I know you’re telling the truth? For all I know, you could be telling me lies, and really you’re going to trick me into thinking that there’s another way and really you’re going to have me killed.”

Seth thought about it for a second and said, “I’m you’re only option. And I’ve told you you can die one way, and you think I could be tricking you into dying another way, so either way, you could die.” Jace didn’t look happy. “You’re just going to have to trust me.”

Jace thought about it for a minute and then said, “Fine. What is this other way?”

“You’re going to have to come with me. I’ll take you to where the Queen lives, and when she returns, I can get you an audience with her.”

“Lead the way, faerie,” Jace said.

Seth led Jace away from the exotic looking field and towards where he and the other faeries of Scorcha’s court lived.

When they reached the building, Seth led Jace through the maze of hallways he had become so familiar with. He found an empty room fairly close to his and opened the door. He motioned for Jace to enter. Jace did so, but very reluctantly. Seth stepped into the room after Jace.

“You never told me your name,” he said.

Jace looked over at Seth. “Jace.” He suddenly realized why the faerie queen of New York had said his last name  wouldn’t matter.

“Well, you’re going to have to stay here for a few days until the High Queen returns,” Seth explained.

“What do you mean stay here for a few days? I can’t stay here! What about that don’t you understand?” Jace roared.  “Oh, that’s right. You’re a faerie. You don’t know what it’s like to love someone, and then figure out you can’t be with them, and then when you figure out you can be with them, you die. Then, that person loves you so much that when given the chance to have anything in the world, they ask for you. Then, when you’re reunited, and everything seems to be going really well, everything you’ve ever known is wrenched away from you.”

Seth sat in silence for a minute, then quietly said, “No I don’t know what that feels like. But I do know what it’s like to love someone so much that you would do anything for them. Even become a faerie for them when everyone told you it was impossible. And the entire time you’re trying to find a way to be with her, she’s being pulled toward somebody else because of some stupid faerie monarchy thing and it’s driving a wedge between you and her. And you know that the court would be stronger if they were together, but you love her too much to let her go. So you find a way to be a faerie so you can be with her. And when you go back and see her with the faerie king, it almost breaks your heart, but when she sees you, her face lights up and everything that happened between them shatters. I do know what that’s like.”

Jace looked at the floor. They sat in an awkward silence for a while before Seth spoke again.

“Would you do anything for her?”

Jace looked up and Seth could see the pain in his eyes. “Anything.”

Seth knew it to be true. “Then I’ll help you.” He stood up and headed for the door. Jace started to follow, but Seth turned and said, “ Stay here. It’s not safe for a mortal to wander around in faerie alone.”

With that, he left Jace alone in the room.

Seth came back a couple of times a day with food. He assured Jace it was alright to eat. Jace, starving as he was, figured it didn’t really matter anyway, so he ate it. He ate, slept, and paced in his room. Sometimes when Seth stopped by they would talk for a short amount of time, but he never stayed long.

One of the times Seth stopped by, he asked Jace if he knew why he was in faerie.

Jace was quiet for a moment. “There’s only one reason I can think of. My girlfriend, Clary, refused to do a favor for the queen which angered her.”

Seth nodded. “Ok. Well, the High Queen will be back in a few days.” With that he left.

Jace was starting to get restless. He paced his room for hours. One day, when he had tired of pacing, he was laying on his bed, staring at the wall on the opposite side of the room. Suddenly, the wall disappeared and he was looking at Clary.

She was sitting with her back against the wall in her room at Luke’s house crying. In her lap was her favorite sketch pad. She had her hands on it, but she moved them. When she moved them, Jace saw it was a picture of him. She hugged the sketch pad and said, “I love you Jace.” After that, she broke out into uncontrollable sobs. Seeing Clary like this hurt Jace more than being hurt by any demon.

Jace sprung up from his bed and ran over to the wall. “Clary!” he yelled. Suddenly, the image disappeared. It was replaced by the wall it had originally been. “Damn it,” Jace said as he pounded his fist against the wall. He sank down to the ground. The only other time he had felt this trapped and alone was when he had been in the sell in the Silent City. Clary had come to rescue him. This time though, escape seemed impossible.

“You must be Jace,” said a feminine voice from behind him.

Jace stood up and turned around. A female faerie was standing in front of him with Seth a little behind her and to the side.

“I am Scorcha, the High Queen of faerie. Seth has told me you are trapped here and wish to return to the mortal realm.”

Jace nodded. He feared his emotions would take over if he said anything.

Scorcha looked behind him at the wall. “Was that the girl?”

“You saw that?” Jace asked.

“I allowed you to see it,” she told him.

“Yes, that’s Clary.”

“Seth tells me that you are here because your lover refused to help a queen.”

Jace nodded again.

“Well, I learned a long time ago that mortals, as helpful as they sometimes are, cannot be forced to do anything. So tell me, why should I return you to Earth?” Scorcha flicked her hand and an extravagant chair appeared. She sat and motioned for Jace to sit as well.

Jace sat in silence for a minute thinking on what to say. Finally, he said, “I am a mortal. I would be of no use to you here. I would wither and die in the blink of an eye. I would not do what you wish of me to do, no matter the punishment. I would tear this world apart if that’s what it took. I wish to return to Earth because I am in love. And the person I love is in pain and I am the only one who can make her stop hurting.”

The room was silent for a moment. “I have no doubt that you would tear faerie apart to return to your beloved, Jace Lightwood. That is why I will return you to Earth, where you belong,” Scorcha told him.

Jace was shocked. He had expected the queen to say no.

Scorcha smiled at the shock that was evident on his face. “I had already decided to let you return to Earth. Seth convinced me to do that. I would hear your reasons first though.” Jace scowled at this. “Do not begrudge me. After all, I am returning you to the one you love. Now, follow me.”

Scorcha got up from her chair. With another wave of her hand, it vanished. She led the way out the door. Seth and Jace followed. She led them through the many halls of her palace. When they had reached the very middle part of the garden, Scorcha opened the doors to her private garden. She led them to the center. There was a small circle where all the paths intersected.

“Step into the circle,” she said.

Jace stepped into the circle and waited for Seth to join them. When he didn’t, Jace turned around.

“I cannot leave,” Seth explained. “It is not my time. I too am kept from my love for a short time. Go to her and cherish every moment you have with her. And know that time here moves slower than on Earth. It has only been seven days here, but it was been forty-two days there.”

The faerie Queen took his hand and Seth and the world of faerie disappeared.

They appeared in a graveyard. The queen dropped his hand as Jace looked around.

When he saw her, he froze. She was kneeling on the ground sobbing in front of a head stone. Jace turned to thank the queen, but stopped. She was holding his sword.

“I believe this is yours,” she said as she handed it to him. “Go to your love. Comfort and love her while you can. As you said, a mortal life is a short one.”

Jace turned and silently ran through the graveyard. When he was close, he slowed to a walk.  He laid his sword down and put and hand on her shoulder when he had reached her.

“Just leave me alone. I want to die,” she choked out through the sobs.

“I can’t do that Clary,” Jace said quietly.

Clary turned to face him. “Jace?”

He smiled his beautiful angelic smile. “The one and only.”

She lunged at him and caught him in a death grip hug. He put his arms around her and held her close. She continued to cry as he buried his face in her curly red hair.

Suddenly, she pulled away. “I thought you were dead,” she whispered.

Jace brushed the tears off the smooth skin of her cheek. “I would never leave you alone.” He brushed his lips across hers in a short kiss. “I love you too much.” Then he kissed her with such passion, it took Clary’s breath away.

After the kiss, Jace continued to hold her until she had stopped crying. “Are you ok?” he asked gently.

She looked up at him and smiled for the first time in forty-two days. “I am now.”

“Then let’s go home.”
This is an entry I did for a crossover contest for the Nuns of Fiction. As you can guess, it's a Mortal Instruments and Fragile Eternty cross over.

Just some extras, when Jace sees the image of Clary, the song that came to my mind was Her Diamonds by Rob Thomas and when Jace is holding Clary in the graveyard i thought of Never Say Never by The Fray and Far Away by Nickleback.

All the characters belong respectfully to Cassandra Clare and Melissa Marr.

Okay, now I'm really going to sound like a bitch, but there is a total spoilder in there for anyone who hasn't read Fragile Enterinity yet.
If the whole Seth becoming a fairie thing is true than that just so runined the series for me. Like said, sorry for being a bitch, that just kinda ticked me off.
